TAC|TAICROS®

About TAC/TAICROS®

TAC
TAC can be liquid or solid (one block) depending on storage temperatures (melting point 27 °C). If it is crystallized, it has to be remelted before use.
Remelting can be carried out by placing the container either in a water bath or in a heating chamber at a temperature of 35–40 °C. The temperature has to be controlled carefully. Especially, overheating of the material from the outer side should be avoided, because the stabilizer is concentrated in the middle of the crystalline block and therefore, cannot work. By overheating above 50 °C for a longer period of time an exothermic polymerisation reaction can take place. Remelting of a 30 kg bin takes 1–2 days depending on the starting temperature of the material.
It is important that the material is completely liquefied and had some time to homogenize before use, because stabilizer and impurities are concentrated in the middle of the crystalline block resulting at first in a non-uniform quality.
TAC is classified as harmful and dangerous to the environment. Therefore, during handling of the material the usual lab protective clothing should be worn. Measures have to be taken to avoid that TAC ends up in the environment, because it has a low water solubility and is only slowly biodegradable.
TAICROS®
TAICROS® is usually liquid, but can crystallize (one block) depending on storage temperature (melting point 25 °C). In contrast to TAC it tends to form undercooled melts and can stay liquid for quite some time at temperatures below 25 °C. In this stage sometimes small irritations like shaking of the container can initiate crystallization. If it is crystallized, it has to be remelted before use.

Especially, overheating of the material from the outer side should be avoided, because the stabilizer is concentrated in the middle of the crystalline block and cannot work. TAICROS® TMT
TAICROS® TMT is a very fine powder, which is coated with 2 percent of mineral oil in order to avoid dusting and electrical charging and make the powder handable. It can be directly mixed in rubber formulations. The melting point is >300 °C, which means that it does not melt when mixed into a polymer. Therefore, the particle size of the product is an important factor. For our TAICROS® TMT we specify a particle size of 99.0 percent <63 µm. It is thermally stable up to 250 °C.
TAICROS® TMT is not classified as hazardous material. Nevertheless, we recommend to use the usual lab protective clothing when handling the product.
